1989 — Foundations Laid on Vancouver Island

JV Driver was founded in Duncan, BC, with a bold vision to build not just projects, but people and communities. From these humble beginnings, the company set a foundation of quality and integrity that would fuel decades of growth.

2001 — Expanding Capabilities in Alberta

Opening a fabrication facility in Nisku, AB, marked JV Driver’s first big leap beyond construction. This facility gave the company the tools to create, innovate, and control quality from the ground up — a game-changer for future industrial projects.

2005 to 2010 — Building a National Footprint

Strategic acquisitions in key Canadian markets accelerated growth:
2005: IDL Projects in Prince George, BC; 2006: DF Barnes in St. John’s, Newfoundland; 2010: MetroCan Construction in Surrey, BC, each addition broadened JV Driver’s reach and expertise, positioning the company as a trusted national player.

2012 — Rescuing a Community Icon

Partnering with REV Investments, JV Driver played a critical role in keeping the iconic Oak Bay Beach Hotel out of receivership, demonstrating commitment beyond construction — to preserving heritage and local economies.

2015 to 2017 — Diversification and New Ventures

2015: Acquisition of Scott Construction in Vancouver, BC, strengthened JVD’s residential and commercial footprint; 2016: Launch of Straightline Motor Group in Calgary, AB, marked JV Driver’s exciting entry into the automotive sector; 2017: Through Zeus Holdings, JV Driver partnered with Vesta in London, UK, marking the company’s first foray into international investment;
Straightline also expanded rapidly by acquiring Dodge and KIA dealerships in Alberta.

2018 to 2019 — Expanding Across Borders and Sectors

JV Driver made strategic moves south of the border and into automotive growth:
2018: Acquired BFL Construction in Phoenix and Tucson, AZ, expanding U.S. operations.
2019: Straightline added KIA in Medicine Hat and Auto Bahn in Calgary, AB, further growing its market presence.

2020 — A Year of Realignment

JV Driver strategically exited some industrial operations in Phoenix, AZ, and Houston, TX, focusing on core strengths and streamlining the portfolio. Insight Insurance & Risk Management asset sale was part of this refocus.

2021 — New Partnerships and Growth in Canada

Partnered with Salus Insurance Services Inc. in Winnipeg, MB, expanding insurance capabilities. Straightline acquired Volkswagen in Medicine Hat, adding another brand to its automotive family. JV Driver also commenced multiple building and land leasing opportunities in Nisku, AB, setting the stage for future growth.

2022 — Strengthening the Network and International Partnerships

JV Driver exited industrial operations in Houston, TX, to sharpen focus. DF Barnes acquired KMS Industries Inc. in Nova Scotia, expanding East Coast reach. JV Driver sold Innovator Industrial Services Inc. Straightline opened Napa AutoPro in Medicine Hat, growing its automotive services.

2023 — Strategic Acquisitions and Forward Momentum

JV Driver acquired an interest in Fortress Mountain, signaling expansion into new industries. DF Barnes consolidated its presence in Halifax with the acquisition of KMS Industries.

2024 — Transitioning and Leading for the Future

JV Driver transitioned to JV Driver Investments Inc., reflecting a broader vision beyond construction. Straightline acquired Honda and Chevrolet Buick GMC dealerships in Terrace, BC, broadening automotive offerings. JV Driver acquired majority interest in the iconic Oak Bay Beach Hotel, cng its legacy of community investment and stewardship.
